WHAT a fabulous year for me as Lancashire Wedding photographer

I was lucky enough to be non stop shooting from February to December this year, making 2022 one of my busiest years to date. As well as photographing lots of beautiful Lancashire weddings I also had the pleasure of getting down into Cheshire, Manchester and over to Yorkshire for a few wedding too. I generally photography weddings in and around the surrounding areas of the Ribble Valley, although I’m more than happy to photography anywhere in The North West.

I had the pleasure of covering some of my favourite Lancashire wedding venues this year including – Browsholme Hall,  Holmes Mill,  Eaves Hall, Bartle Hall,  Falcon Manor & Ashfield House.

Just wow! Jules photographed our wedding in April this year and was the perfect addition to our day from the moment she arrived, photography skills amazing but Jules is also the loveliest person who was on hand throughout the day to just help wherever she could, from helping tidy up with the bridal party to keeping an eye on our daughter whilst she napped during the wedding breakfast, she made us feel completely at ease! – Our day was captured perfectly and we now have the best bunch of pictures to treasure – thank you so much, we are so grateful!

I’ve Had the privilege of photographing over 25 Same Sex Weddings, all of them gorgeous and totally different. There are no rules with weddings – Gone are days where we follow a tradition of how to style yourself, plan you day, people you invite. Some couples love all the traditions of weddings and having all the traditional elements of day (although its becoming less popular). For me personally I say –  it’s your day, so do it your way. If you have a passion for fashion, show it . Anything goes – Definitely be your own person with styling. Be yourself and it will add to the feel of the day. Are you having a theme? do you want a non spiritual ceremony ? maybe a celebrant? Are you having it outdoors? Is it more a party with lots of entertainment? there are lots of ways to make it totally represent your personality. The traditional main element of a wedding obviously the ceremony ( in whatever form you choose), but other than that you can make your day be whatever and do it however you like.

I am totally thrilled that I have had several bookings this year at Holmes Mill Lancashire – well as you know I love colourful weddings, making my photo edits pop. So give me a quirky wedding at this awesome Lancashire venue too and i’m just in my element. Located in the heart of Clitheroe, is the beautifully converted Holmes Mill.  Wedding ceremonies at Holmes Mill  are always amazing to photography as this room as so much atmosphere. Robyn & Tom choose to dance down the aisle  after the ceremony, with all the guests following, shaking their thing too, which I must say brought another extra vibe to the day. Lottie – their furbaby was the sat of the day, even having a front row seat for the ceremony. The theme of the day was music. Festival being their shared love.

The Mill hosts a unique celebration of Lancashire food, drink and entertainment.  This former textiles mill is a truly unique  place to hold your wedding celebrations.The building is split into three sections, the Spinning Block  – The Boiler House –  The Weaving Shed. Its within the The Boiler House that you will find is the most unique function room. Bear plaster walls, exposed pipework, old cinema seats around the outside of the room. Hello I’m Jules. I’ve been a Lancashire wedding photographer for over 15 years  and have photographed over 600 weddings  So i think I know a little bit about the wedding planning journey!:). So I’ve written this helpful blog post, that you can can hopeful take a few hints and tips from. Lancashire Photographer  planning guide. Now your on the exciting path towards your wedding day, where to start?  Well first of all where’s it going to be? – the venue!

   Venue

I get asked a lot at wedding fairs for suggestions of venues. There are so many different types of wedding venues, you can pretty much get married anywhere these days. If they don’t advertise to offering weddings ask anyway you never know! – I know of a vintage cinema that had  so many enquires that they actually started to offer them

   Photographer  &  Videographer

I suggest to couples that they start researching Lancashire wedding photographer at the same time as they are researching venues, so that as soon they have confirmed your date & booked their venue, you can have a shortlist of photographers ready to go.

First thing you should look for when choosing your Lanacshire photographer is style. Do I like the way they capture the images, the colors they use in edit? The feel of the work and the range of emotions they evoke.

Then it’s the actual person. Do you like them? Photographer biography’s on their website, Instagram stories & posts are a great source of information. Are they your sort of person? Do they make you smile? Are you feeling connection towards them? Arrange to meet up or have a phone call with your favourites. Once you have met or spoken to your favourite’s you should have a clear idea who your winner is, so BOOKED THEM! – you have found your photographer!

I get a lot of booking from couples who have met me at friends’ weddings. They have seen me in action, so know I’m down to earth, friendly & organized.  Some couples have booked me within just a five minutes of chatting on the phone or a short conversation at wedding fair. Making a choice can be a quick gut decision for some people, but if you are undecided hopefully this plan will help.

   Dress

The Dress. I learn a few years ago that the dress can take up to 12 months (SOMETIMES LONGER!) to be ready from the designer. Dress shopping must be a fabulous experience to share with your mum, best mate or all your maids. Although I have been informed the best mate is the better option. Too many people, and you will get lots of different options. Mum’s can be biased but your best mate will tell it straight! ?

Dress shopping has got to include late lunches, a bit of fizz & quality time with your favorite person or people. Again, you will have made a shortlist of boutiques to visit. Bridal suppliers have told me that a lot of brides have an idea of what they want before they even try a dress on. As we are all different shapes and sizes your dream dress may not always suit your height, body shape, coloring etc. Take advice from the ladies at the boutiques; they probably will know as soon as you walk in what will look good on you, and you may be pleasantly surprised?

Acoustic musicians & magicians can sometimes do more than one events depending on the time you require them. Some couples like music or magic after the ceremony during canopies where other prefer this after dinner, leading nicely into the evening party.

Wedding hosts that will act as a speaker and announce your VIP guests into the room, creating a party atmosphere. They will host Mr & Mrs games & generally get the party started. There are hosts that can add singing to list, getting your guests upon on their feet around the dining room, singing and dancing as they interact with you & your guests.

If you are wanting more of a conversational atmosphere an acoustic guitar musician and singer may be the ideal. These singers normally do their thing in background.

   Flowers   –   Cakes   –  Room Styling  – Make up & hair

Some of these suppliers will be able to cater for more than one wedding a day, although I do know several florist & cake makers that will only do one per day as their work is so involved or they are small business employing no staff.

All the above elements are normally dictated as part of your scheme, either color or by styling. As with all us creatives these guys will have a definite look and style to their work and that will be the deciding factor of who you choose. Again, people power is also important and if you like the supplier & they are your sort of person this is only going to be a bonus to your relationship building towards your wedding.

Remember the reason for the wedding is to celebrate your love for each other and that is the most important thing of all!

Winter   Weddings   in   Lancashire

This dreamy winter wedding at Shireburn Arms in Lancashire has to be one of my favourite ever festive weddings. Mostly because of Sophie & Matt, but also because of the dreamy golden hour we had at Cromwell bridge. That midday sunshine is always a corker at this time year.  As you can see Shireburn Arms, winter wedding photography looks stunning. Soft enough to shoot into but strong enough to give the perfect golden glow.

Mitton Hall  in Lancashire is one of the regions most popular wedding venues. I absolutely love coming back here. In fact I’m Mitton Hall Wedding Photographer at least once a year. I’m also attend one of the invited Wedding Photographers attending their Autumn Wedding Open Day this season

Often fully booked a year or two in advance for popular dates. I shot my first wedding here over 15 years ago and have been back her many times, in fact I’m normally at Mitton Hall in Lancashire at least once a year. Its popularity stems from the fact that it has everything, stunning gardens, natural ceremony & dining rooms, excellent food, period features mixed with modern touches & that amazing Mitton Hall balcony and that the infamous chandelier!

Weddings with Dogs

Gabby & Alicia  had a new edition to the crew, who actually appeared for the first time on their wedding day ( a present from Gabby to Alicia!). It was made even more special when ALL their fur babies turned up for a post ceremony cuddle. How adorable! I’ve had a mega bumper year of couples bringing there doggies along to the wedding celebrations. Around 9 couples this year added there furbabies to the gusts list. That’s just under a quarter of my happy humans who needed to have their furry family member come celebrate their Lancashire wedding.

Love this wedding for so many reasons, one being Alicia’s reactions. Both these ladies are uber expressive. I don’t think I’ve photographed a wedding for a while where I got so much emotion, laughter, showering’s of love and such great reaction as this one! The atmosphere throughout the days was electric, full of fun, joy & laughter. The added bonus for the ladies was that there wedding date landed on the date of the Woman’s Euros final – and we WON! – as the whole room watched on the Big screen the room erupted. As footie fans and players ( that’s how they met!) this was literally the icing on the wedding cake!

Mitton Hall in Lancashire has a wonderful  bridal preparation area, which converts perfectly into a breakfast come Hair & Make up salon. Lots of light and an ideal window seating area for all your girls to sip a little early morning bubbles & have a natter. By the time the prepping is complete the bridal suite is ready for the bridal party to pop over for getting into THAT Dress. When my brides are getting ready at the same location as the celebrations, it  a real bonus as I can nip down the ceremony room before all the guests arrive and capture some undisturbed images of the room.

Dog  friendly  Lancashire wedding venues

Couples inviting their beloved dogs to their weddings are pretty much the norm these days . I think I’ve  hot over 60 weddings to date where dogs have featured somehow.  With jobs such as ring bearer, flower girl or just VIP guest!. Engagement shoots are another popular way of including your doggies in with the wedding celebrations; if you can’t actually have the their on the day. Using photos from the shoot as part of the wedding decorations is cute way of having them virtually there!

When you book Holmes Mill for your wedding your definitely getting a unique wedding venue that is off beat with loads of vibe.  So it goes without saying that your Holmes Mill Wedding Photographer should have loads of vibe too. I was lucky enough to photograph one of the very first weddings  at Holmes Mill back in September 2017, when it first opened its doors. There are lots of  great spots for portraits including stairwells, 1920’s cocktail bar, engine room, cinema seats in the main dining room & the food hall – YES the food hall. Its  AMAZING for quirky, colourful portraits. There are many other great spots too; many to mention, but one of the favorites is the metal storage containers at the front of the bar. Not always accessible on a busy Saturday, but they do make for some great imagery. Quirky Holmes Mill Wedding Clitheroe. This area also doubles as a great location for your evening images. Lit with festoon lighting for a dreamy feel; deal for  those sparkler images too.
